F. A. Q.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Yes and No. All our matches are open to the public for both participants and spectators. However, use of the range for recreation and training is limited to Season Pass holders.

  • Please see our SEASON PASS page on our website and the Season Pass F.A.Q. section below.

  • We have 4 shootings bays that vary in size. The smallest is 65’ x 75’ and the largest bay offers shots up to 75 yards (with 100 yards being available at certain times).

  • For Season Pass holders, they can shoot on the range from 8:00am until 8:00pm or dusk (whichever comes earlier).

  • Unfortunately, No. DSS is not staffed full-time and Season Pass holders are not trained by us to assist the public.

  • No. We do not have an FFL.

  • No. We do not sell any type of retail products.

  • We allow Season Pass holder to pickup brass anytime they are at the range. Competitors are allowed to pick up as much brass as they would like after they are done competing for the day. We do not allow non-Season Pass holders or non-competitors on the property to pick up brass.

  • Due to our active match schedule and instructors, bays are not available for rental in order to prioritize range time for our Season Pass holders.

SEASON PASS

  • We do not sell memberships to the DSS. We sell a limited number of Season Passes annually (based on the calendar year).

  • For detailed information, please read through the information provided in the SEASON PASS section of our website.

  • The first step is to complete a CONTACT form and ask to be put on the waiting list.

  • We have a renewal period for current Season Pass holders that starts in October each year and runs for 3-4 weeks. At that time current Season Pass holders can renew their passes for the next calendar year. If a current pass holder notifies us that they won’t be renewing, then we start contacting people on the waiting list. After the renewal period closes, we start contacting people on the waiting list for any unclaimed passes (these are slots that are open because a Season Pass holders didn’t respond during the renewal period). We typically hold back a few spots in case there were communication or other issues during the renewal process.

  • As of 3/1/2024, there are over 150 names on the waiting list.

  • That is hard to say. Every year we have fewer open slots. For the 2024 season, we only took 11 new Season Pass holders. We expect that 2025 will be similar.

  • Match fees are paid for at the range on the day of the match.

  • We accept cash only for match fees.

  • The results for matches can be found under the SCORES tab on PractiScore. By typing “DSS -”, the search engine will populate all of our matches starting with the most current match.

WEEKEND MATCHES

  • We use PractiScore to schedule all our weekend matches. You can either go to the DSS club page on PractiScore or you can use the link provided on the match details page of the specific match on our CALENDAR.

  • The front gat opens at 7:00am. We ask that everyone arrive and check-in at Registration by no later than 8:30am. We have a new shooter’s meeting at 8:30am and a match briefing at 8:45am. First shoots are typically right around 9:00am

  • Most of the matches are about 3-4 hours long, but Multi-Gun matches are typically around 5+ hours long. They are all dependent on how many participants we have (more competitors equal longer matches).

  • For Steel Challenge, competitors may shoot 2 guns per flight. For all other matches, just one division per flight. Please note, not all our matches offer an afternoon flight (please see the details on the specific match page in PractiScore to find out if there is an afternoon flight for that match). Please note, there is an additional fee for additional guns.

  • We will make a determination to cancel the match or not by 7:00am. If the match is going to be cancelled, we email the registered competitors and post on Facebook.

DYNAMIC STEEL MATCHES

  • Our Dynamic Steel matches are from 3:00 until 8:00pm (or dusk). However, competitors do not have to be present at 3:00pm to participate. Instead, we ask that competitors arrive and be ready to shoot anytime between 3:00 and 6:30pm (6:00pm later in the season when we start to lose daylight).

  • As we have 4-6 competitors arrive and become ready to shoot, we will enter their information into a scoring device. This forms a squad for the match. The squad is then provided with the scoring device and a timer and allowed to start their match.

  • It takes competitors typically 60-90 minutes to complete the course of fire on Wednesdays. Again, if we have many competitors, it may take longer. Early arrivals (before 4:00/4:30pm) are usually able to finish in about 60 minutes.

  • Yes. Participants that start their matches before 5:00pm are typically able to shoot through an additional time. However, it will depend on how many folks are shooting that night or arrive later in the day. Please note, there is an additional fee for additional runs.

  • Around noon on each Wednesday there is a match, we post on Facebook. We either post a picture of one of the stages (which means we are a go) or we post a cancellation notice.

NEW COMPETITORS

  • Absolutely! You will need to have eye and ear protection and will be asked to complete our waiver.

  • The best way to get started is to just come out to watch a match. This will help you to understand the structure of the match, match safety procedures, and range commands used by the Range Officers. Match organizers and competitors are very willing to answer questions.

  • We typically recommend that you try our Dynamic Steel match on Wednesdays. This match is a little less competitive and we are a little less stringent in the equipment rules (still strict on safety and range procedures). If you can’t make Wednesday’s, then we would suggest a USPSA or Steel Challenge match on the weekend.

  • We don’t recommend that you purchase any new firearms or equipment until you have shot a few matches. There are several different disciplines and divisions within those disciplines that will dictate the direction you need to go into your purchase. Also, I lot of the gear that you might use is not available at your local gun store. It might be only available online. After a few matches and by talking with fellow competitors at those matches, you will have a better understanding of what you will need.

  • Eye Protection

    Ear Protection

Your firearm in a bag or case (recommend 9mm Handgun for Dynamic Steel, USPSA and SC)

    Outside-the-Waistband Holster

3 Magazines that hold at least 15 rounds (more if they hold less than 15)

Athletic shoes (something that has some grip, you will be moving around on gravel)

  • We typically recommend that you bring twice the required number of hits for the match: 200 rounds for Dynamic Steel and Steel Challenge and 250 rounds for USPSA. This amount helps to cover the required number of shots, make-up shots for misses, and in case you must re-shoot a stage. Hopefully, you will be going home with a lot of unused rounds.
